the premise that all families, regardless of income or ethnic
background, need support to best nurture their children's
intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
Family support programs are designed to help children by working with
families to prevent problems with a focus on family and community

leveraging existing resources and providing funding through Smart Start - the following
programs are made possible to the young children and their families:
As Teachers: Encourages parents to take an active role in
their children's development and education. This program
provides home visits, group meetings, screenings, and referral
Parenting Program: Provides intensive, family centered
services to pregnant and parenting adolescents.
Education Program: Provides parenting education to families of
children 0-5 years of age, through referrals by school counselors,
Department of Social Services,or mandated by the courts.
Out and Read:
promotes early literacy and school readiness in the pediatric practice
setting by giving new books to children and advice to parents about
the importance of reading.
