Family Support
news.gif (6911 bytes)

Family support begins with the premise that all families, regardless of income or ethnic background, need support to best nurture their children's intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.  Family support programs are designed to help children by working with families to prevent problems with a focus on family and community strengths.

By blending and leveraging existing resources and providing funding through Smart Start - the following programs are made possible to the young children and their families:

Parents As Teachers:  Encourages parents to take an active role in their children's development and education.  This program provides home visits, group meetings, screenings, and referral networks.

Adolescent Parenting Program:  Provides intensive, family centered services to pregnant and parenting adolescents.

Parenting Education Program: Provides parenting education to families of children 0-5 years of age, through referrals by school counselors, Department of Social Services,or mandated by the courts.

Reach Out and Read: Program promotes early literacy and school readiness in the pediatric practice setting by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading.
